Everywhere We Ate In: L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France
For paid subscribers: a hit-list recounting every single stop from our recent trips, this time: L'Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue in Provence
Second in a new series of snappy overviews of literally everywhere we ate in a destination on a short break. Rather than long guides full of prose these are designed to be a listicle of one-liners on different spots, from where we got coffee and glasses of wine to the restaurants we ate in plus a steer on some activities too. From Glasgow and Gothenburg to Rotterdam and Turin… First up was Kraków, next is a pretty little Provençal town we’ve visited a couple of times: L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.
Remarked for its antique stores and its bustling weekly market, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a town of around 20,000 inhabitants sitting on the Sorgue river. There’s an English language tourism website here with lots more information.
Getting There
Fly into Marseille Airport, hire a car and L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue is only an hour’s drive away. You could alternatively get the train from Marseille-Provence Airport - the train runs between Marseille Saint-Charles and Avignon TGV (SNCF) - which takes roughly an hour as well, and the gare (train station) in L’isle is located quite near the town centre. We’ve always had issues with works on the line or train disruption so we have never done this option ourselves, plus to properly explore the area around the town it’s worth having a car at your disposal.
